Kathy Taylor is a visual artist and activist working in textiles, sculpture, installation and mixed media. She graduated from Central St Martins in 2008 (BA Fine Art), and is part of Space Studios in Ilford.
Taylor’s work explores and questions some of the issues of late capitalism including residues of Empire as they linger and continue to stain our present world situation. Through the iconography of Empire and nation, particularly that specific to the artist’s own family history and inherited memories, Taylor’s work raises questions about the nostalgia of nationality and the consequences of colonialism. In excavating the past, the artist raises pertinent questions within contemporary debates concerning immigration, Brexit, and Britain’s contemporary situation in the world.
