Wanstead Pop Up Shop

5th – 20th September 2015

A collaborative project (Kathy Taylor, Sam Cowan, Francesca Jaggs and Donna Mizzi). An empty shop was loaned for the weeks leading up to and including the Art Trial at very short notice. It was transformed from an empty unused space into a thriving hub where, on the lines of the 2015 Art Trail theme ‘We are the Environment’, art projects and environmental themes coalesced.

The ‘Love Up’ project was a map of Wanstead painted onto the wall of the hub (by Sam Cowan) and local people were invited to contribute actions to improve Wanstead. They were also asked questions about climate change and answers were pinned on boards, plus there was art work by Kathy Taylor and Mark Branigan on display in the space. For 2 weeks a full programme of events ranging from children’s collage, talks on art to poetry and film evenings, was on offer plus the space was used by several different artists to show their work for a day and by two different special needs groups: Snaresbrook Arts Project, and Leading Our Lives.
The hub was managed and funded entirely by volunteers.
